Paul Romer to Serve as World Bank Chief Economist

World Bank President Jim Yong Kim announced today that Paul Romer will serve as the next Chief Economist for the World Bank. Though we will miss him while he is on leave from the University, we are very excited for Paul to take on this important role. Paul posted a brief personal statement about this news on his blog today:

This position is a unique chance to learn about the thing that fascinates me most – producing knowledge that is useful in the sense that it yields benefits on the scale of billions of people. If you are familiar with my early work on ideas as nonrival goods, you can appreciate why scale is so compelling to me.
