MTA Wasting Millions
in Second Ave. Subway Extension

The Transportation and Land Use program’s project, “Maximizing Accessibility and Ridership for the Interborough Express: Strategic Infrastructure and Street Redesigns,” was selected as part of the 10 global projects for Strava’s inaugural Metro for Academic Researchers Program, which allows researchers access to Strava Metro’s deidentified, aggregated data to develop evidence-based solutions for improving active transportation networks and provides ongoing support. The Transportation and Land Use team, supported by the Regional Plan Association and Bike New York, will evaluate the proposed Interborough Express corridor and recommend strategic street redesigns and infrastructure improvements to expand station access beyond a 10-minute walking distance. The team considers these changes critical to boosting ridership and maximizing the impact of the planned $5.5 billion investment, ensuring broader connectivity and lasting regional benefits.
