Solly Angel Presents at the World Bank and the
Center for Global Development’s Growth Summit
Director of Urban Expansion, Solly Angel, presented at two events:
- At a lunch at the World Bank, Angel discussed a new urban/housing policy initiative for sub-Saharan Africa: Promoting and facilitating land pooling and subdivision in the rural periphery of cities by village chiefs and local leaders, as an antidote to informality and a path to climate-resilient/affordable housing at scale. Angel reported on such a USAID-financed pilot project in Lilongwe, Malawi. He also presented a research proposal aimed at developing knowledge, focused on the annual monitoring of land subdivision and irregular settlement formation in all cities of more than 100,000 people, case studies on settlement formation on the fringes of cities, and research questions arising from the new data and case studies.
- Angel presented at the Center For Global Development’s Growth Summit: Recentering Economic Growth in Development, where he participated in the session, “Horizontal, Vertical, and Cluster Approaches to Growth.”
