Marron Institute Seed Grants

The Marron Institute of Urban Management will offer grants of up to $50,000 over a two-year period to NYU faculty to provide seed funding for innovative scholarship and applied research projects that address pressing problems faced by cities and urban residents.  The purpose of the grant program is to stimulate proposals for creative solutions to socio-economic, political, or physical issues that accompany urban development. Awarded funds can be used for project-related expenditures including to provide summer research support, to hire research assistants, or to purchase technology necessary for the proposed project and not otherwise readily available to the proposer.

We are particularly interested in sponsoring interdisciplinary work, and research that has practical applications to management of urban spaces. As a result, special consideration will be given to proposals for projects with:

  • co-investigators from different schools, departments, or academic units within the University; and
  • a strong potential to attract additional or subsequent funding from outside of the University

Details:

  • Award: Up to $50,000
  • Deadline for proposals: 12/15/2017
  • Eligibility: NYU faculty

Applying:

  • Please submit a short written proposal of no more than two pages that describes the problem that you intend to address, the approach that you intend to take, and a brief statement of the potential for subsequent external support. Please also include a budget.
  • Applications should be emailed to wesnousky@nyu.edu.
  • A selection committee consisting of the Director of the Marron Institute, two Marron faculty members, and two members of the faculty from elsewhere in NYU will consider submissions and make the award. Awards will be announced February 2018.
