Mark Kleiman to Join Marron Institute
by
Paul Romer
Marron Director, Angela Hawken, and the Litmus team were awarded funding from the Tides Foundation to provide recommendations to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) on initiatives aimed at reducing the prison population and improving transitions from incarceration to the community. Litmus Research Scholars, Sandy Mullins and Janelle Prueter, led the team’s efforts to assess IDOC’s progress on implementation of recent legislation, the Earned Discretionary Sentence Credit, which aims to award sentence credit to reduce incarceration time. Litmus also advised IDOC on how it can harness federal funding to strengthen partnerships with community-serving organizations to support reentry, especially given the challenges of COVID-19. These recommendations were assembled in a report, Effective Reentry Partnerships Between Corrections and Community.
