Litmus Program Leads Peer-to-Peer Exchange Between

Corrections Departments

With funding from the U.S. Department of Labor, Litmus scholars Janelle Prueter, Sandy Mullins, and Isabel Coronado traveled with six Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) officials to tour facilities and learn about best practices from the Washington State Department of Corrections (WADOC) Correctional Industries and corrections education. WADOC is considered a national leader in vocational training.

“We wanted to see what Washington DOC does and what can be implemented in Illinois,” said NYU [Marron] Research Scholar Janelle Prueter.

The visit promoted information sharing in both directions:

[WADOC] Reentry Division Assistant Secretary Danielle Armbruster accompanied the group for some of the stops on the tour and was excited to gain knowledge about how the Illinois DOC works.
