The Litmus team visited Illinois to consult with data-project partners and funders. At Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) headquarters, they met with senior leadership; Litmus Data for Justice fellows from the NYU Center for Data Science, Tharangini Sankarnarayanan and Raj Choudhary, presented a prisons-and-parole-data indicator tool to aid in strategic decisionmaking and to inform the public. At IDOC Kewanee Life Skills Re-entry Center, they presented a prototype employment-matching tool to a group of incarcerated men preparing for release to the community. And at IDOC Hill Correctional Center, Litmus scholars met with incarcerated mentors from its Graduated Reentry Illinois project to discuss recently enacted legislation that expands earned discretionary sentence credits, which the mentors helped inform. The team also presented to the Illinois Sentencing Policy Advisory Council, Women’s Justice Institute, J.B. and M.K. Pritzker Family Foundation, and Joyce Foundation.
