Litmus Program Awarded Grant from Joyce Foundation
State and local policymakers are looking to address the troubling increases in homicides, gun violence, and victimization recorded in cities across the United States since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Litmus program has received funding from the Joyce Foundation to provide targeted assistance to cities and states to meet the needs of this moment, especially the funding and scaling of more balanced, effective, and legitimate systems of public safety in low-income communities of color that have long suffered disproportionally from gun violence, unaddressed trauma, and disinvestment. The team, in collaboration with the Center for Criminal Justice Reform at the University of Baltimore School of Law, will focus on policy and implementation, working with government and community-based organizations that are dedicated to reducing violence and promoting safety.
