For Smart Prosecution

The Litmus program has partnered with the Winnebago Co. (Wisc.) District Attorney’s Office on a project, “Prosecuting Smartly and Fairly Using Data We Can Act on and Share With Our Community,” building on the team’s previous work with the county. The project enhances transparency, fairness, and justice through data-informed prosecution and community engagement, supporting the DA’s goals in addressing serious crime and avoiding unnecessary justice-system processing and incarceration. And it helps diagnose and address disparities. This adds to Litmus’ growing portfolio of projects under its KnowNow initiative, providing actionable data to government partners, in real time.

The project engages with two high-poverty, high-crime neighborhoods in the county seat of Oshkosh, giving them a voice in what defines success for a prosecutor office and what should be counted. Their input and feedback will also be solicited on the public-facing data tools that aim to keep the community informed.
