Litmus Program Awarded Contract
with Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department
As part of the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program (COAP, now COSSAP) sponsored by the United States Department of Justice, Director of Litmus, Angela Hawken, and her team have been awarded a contract with the Harris County, TX, Community Supervision and Corrections Department to identify approaches for earlier detection of and improved system responses to persons with opioid use disorder (OUD). Litmus researchers are partnering with the probation department and collaborating agencies in developing evidence and data-informed plans to better characterize OUD in the county, facilitate early detection of those with OUD who would benefit from targeted interventions, design rapid-referral programs for community resources, and support local capacity for data management and infrastructure. This work in Harris County marks the seventh action-research award for Litmus within COAP/COSSAP. With its partner agencies, Litmus has created a community of practice, the NYU COSSAP Collaborative, to share lessons on addressing common concerns across the country.
