Urban Expansion Program Awarded Grant
from the Inter-American Development Bank
Director of Urban Expansion, Solly Angel, and his team have received an award from the Inter-American Development Bank to increase the capacity of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) governments to implement urban-expansion and densification strategies. Research Scholar Patrick Lamson-Hall will serve as project manager. The Urban Expansion team will conduct case studies and statistical analysis of spatial dynamics to identify the expansion and densification patterns of 50 LAC cities and assess whether LAC cities are creating room for densification within existing urban footprints and on their peripheries. The goal is that cities are productive, equitable, sustainable, and climate-resilient. The team will also advise local authorities and key stakeholders on how much land needs to be prepared to improve urban expansion and densification between 2020 and 2050.
