Tim Tompkins joins NYU Marron as a Fellow, to lead the Sustaining Places initiative, which seeks to enhance neighborhood-based models and mechanisms to create vibrant places, strengthen local governance, and nurture equitable growth. His recent activities include:

  • Go Local! Nurturing Neighborhoods and Advancing Equity: In partnership with the Regional Plan Association and with the support of the New York City Department of Small Business Services, Tompkins issued a report focusing on how the city can better support small-business improvement districts and the newly created position of Chief Public Realm Officer, one of the few such posts in the nation.
  • New York Daily News: In “Help our Business Improvement Districts Improve,” Tompkins draws attention to the needs of less-resourced BIDs and how the city could better support them in realizing its ambitious public-space goals.
  • Urban Thinkers Campus: In this UN Habitat World Urban Campaign program, which NYU Marron collaborates in, Tompkins participated in the Place Management in Action panel on the relationship of place-based partnerships to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
