Litmus Responds to COVID-19
Marron's Litmus program is working with justice agencies nationwide on how corrections (jails and prisons), community corrections (probation and parole), and associated justice and treatment-provider organizations are responding to COVID-19. Litmus hosted three protocol-sharing sessions in the last week (with over 100 attendees, from over twenty states). The team is sharing early insights into what these agencies are doing (and not doing) to curb the spread among justice-involved people, public-safety officers, and treatment providers. Many prison systems are releasing prisoners early to reduce density; the Litmus team is providing guidance on how states can do so most safely. This work is informed in large part by lessons learned from the team’s recently concluded Graduated Reintegration projects in Illinois, which centered on early release.
