Thinking About Punishment
James Q. Wilson and Mass Incarceration
by
Mark A. R. Kleiman
The Pritzker Family Foundation has made an award to the Litmus program to support reforms in Illinois that reduce women’s incarceration and restore families and communities. In concert with the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and the Women’s Justice Institute, Litmus will conduct data analysis, review operations and policies, and develop metrics and tools to inform implementation of reforms in programming, sentence credits, and parole. While this project focuses on women in IDOC custody, it can serve as a model to support similar reforms for men and women in any correctional context. This project builds on Litmus’ ongoing efforts on corrections reform in Illinois, funded by Unorthodox Philanthropy.
