Topics in Urban Management

New NYU Course for Fall 2017

Next fall, NYU’s Wilf Family Department of Politics will offer two new courses taught by faculty members of NYU’s Marron Institute of Urban Management: Topics in Urban Management and Methods of Policy Analysis. These graduate-level courses are open to graduate students outside of Politics as well. Undergraduate students are welcome to register as well. For additional information, please contact: marron.institute@nyu.edu or call (212) 992 - 6839.

Topics in Urban Management is a team taught course drawing on lectures from each of the Marron Institute's principal scholars: public policy scholars Mark Kleiman and Angela Hawken, environmental health scientist Kevin Cromar, legal scholar Clayton Gillette, and urban planners Shlomo Angel and Alain Bertaud.

TOPICS IN URBAN MANAGEMENT (POL-GA2334)

Time: Tuesdays, 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Description: Criminal justice; environmental health; drug policy; rapid urbanization; mobility; job creation; fiscal sustainability: these are a few of the pressing challenges faced by cities around the globe. This course, led by the principal scholars at the Marron Institute of Urban Management, will enable students to develop informed opinions about urban policy, to defend those opinions with good analysis, and to understand the logic behind differing perspectives.

Syllabus: Marron will post the draft syllabus for the Fall 2017 course as soon as it is ready. In the interim, this syllabus from a version of the course offered in Spring 2016 gives a sense for the breadth of issues tackled in the lectures.
