Spring 2021 Civic Analytics Student Fellowship

The Civic Analytics Graduate Student Fellowship invites applications for two (2) urban data science research assistantships at the NYU Marron Institute for Spring 2021. Graduate students (MS or PhD) from all disciplines and programs across NYU are welcome to apply, and we seek a diversity of disciplinary training, backgrounds, and perspectives. The Fellowship projects are data-focused, so candidates with expertise in data science, machine learning, statistical modeling, spatial analysis, network analysis, or interactive data visualizationare particularly encouraged to apply. Led by Director of Civic Analytics, Constantine Kontokosta, the Fellows, as part of the Civic Analytics Program at the NYU Marron Institute, will work alongside researchers in the Urban Intelligence Lab on data analytics projects to address critical urban operational, policy, and planning issues and drive positive social impact. 

About the Civic Analytics Graduate Student Fellowship

Fellows will work on research teams with city agencies and non-profit organizations to utilize data analytics to provide new insight, knowledge, and opportunities for action. The positioning of the Fellowship program at the NYU Marron Institute ensures that impact-driven projects are balanced with fundamental research advanced through widely-disseminated research that is transparent and reproducible. Fellows can expect to:

  • Work on one (or more) analytics research projects as part of the Civic Analytics research team, including NSF-funded research projects related to COVID-19 and on identifying, understanding, and addressing data bias and fairness in algorithmic decision-making.
  • Produce data tools, visualizations, models, and code using a range of data.
  • Contribute, as appropriate, to conference and journal publications.
