Reentry Housing Support in Illinois
With ongoing funding from Unorthodox Philanthropy (UP), the Litmus Program has been following on a Graduated Reintegration (GR) pilot in Illinois to support people transitioning back to the community after serving time in prison. Through a partnership with the Winnebago Co. Housing Authority, the team secured access to public housing for pilot participants, creating a model for a larger state effort to improve outcomes for people reentering the community by offering stable housing and support. Building on insights from GR, Litmus is advising state agencies and local housing authorities on design and implementation of a 75-unit Re-Entry Rental Housing Support Demonstration Program, the first of its kind in Illinois. With the award from UP, Litmus will continue to support the project through consultation and the provision of furnishings and housewares for the 75 units.
