Litmus Receives Award from the Joyce Foundation

to Study Youth Gun-Violence Intervention Strategies

Marron Institute Director, Dr. Angela Hawken, and her Litmus team were awarded funding from the Joyce Foundation to study youth gun-violence intervention strategies in Brooklyn. The project includes an evaluation of a diversion program focused on gun-involved youthful defendants in Brooklyn who have no violent priors. Community contextual factors change over time, and criminal justice policy is continually evolving; these time-varying factors might interact with program implementation in a way that changes program performance over time. To support ongoing learning, in addition to the primary outcomes evaluation, the Litmus team is creating customized software to allow the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office to continue to track program performance over time, independently of the NYU team.
