Kevin Cromar Speaks at Wildfire Symposium

Director of Health, Environment, and Policy, Kevin Cromar, was an invited speaker in the session “Wildfire Smoke Exposure and Health Effects in a Warming World: Epidemiological Insights, Health Equity, and Policy Responses” at the joint annual meeting of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) and the International Society of Exposure Science (ISES) in Atlanta. His presentation drew on projects with NASA and Kaiser Permanente to advance exposure estimates and risk communication strategies for wildfire smoke. Cromar highlighted the need for accurate exposure assessment, the importance of accounting for emissions from structural fires in addition to biomass burning, and the scientific challenges of evaluating wildfire smoke health impacts through approaches distinct from those used for traditional criteria pollutants.
