Director of Litmus, Angela Hawken, has published “An Examination of Recidivism Outcomes for a Novel Prosecutor-led Gun Diversion Program” in the Journal of Criminal Justice, along with Matthew W. Epperson (University of Chicago), Rachel C. Garthe (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), and Hannah Lee (University of Chicago). They conclude:

In conclusion, newly emerging prosecutor-led gun diversion programs (PLGDPs) such as Pathway to New Beginnings represent a novel programmatic response by prosecutors to a segment of gun-related charges. To be certain, criminal legal responses alone will not be sufficient to fully address the complexity of gun violence and uphold community safety. However, early findings on PLGDPs suggest that they could serve as an important component of an overall violence prevention ecosystem, as well as an important contribution to addressing to the racialized criminalization of gun possession.
