Biography

Noussair Lazrak, PhD, is a Research Scientist in the Health, Environment, and Policy program at the NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management. He specializes in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and distributed systems, with applications in environmental and health domains. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer and Data Science from Cadi Ayyad University jointly supervised at New York University’s Marron Institute under the Fulbright Scholarship. His work centers on developing trustworthy and scalable AI frameworks for medical and environmental modeling.

Noussair has held research positions at the NYU Marron Institute of Urban Management, contributing to projects with the World Health Organization and NASA. He also worked at the Universities of Murcia and Barcelona, managing and contributing to major European research initiatives, including Horizon H2020 projects such as FUTURE AI, LONGITOOLS, STAGE, and YouthGEMS. His interdisciplinary research bridges data science, public health, and environmental monitoring to better understand how environmental exposures affect health across the life course.

He currently contributes to NASA-funded projects that deploy high-resolution atmospheric models and improve access to environmental data for diverse stakeholders. At NASA’s Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) and the Health and Air Quality Applied Sciences Team (HAQAST), he focuses on translating complex atmospheric and air quality data into actionable insights for science, policy, and public health.

Beyond academia, Noussair has over six years of experience in entrepreneurship and industry, co-founding technology ventures that develop sustainable, AI-based solutions for low- and middle-income regions. His work has been recognized with multiple international honors, including the Fulbright Research Award, U.S. Department of State Alumni Grant, International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), CCG INNO-IDEA Innovation Prize, and two Erasmus Study Grants to the Universities of Murcia and Charles III of Madrid.
