Litmus Co-Hosts National Convening
on Gun Violence and Prosecutor-Led Diversion
The Litmus program co-hosted a national convening on gun violence and prosecutor-led diversion of people charged with gun offenses, in partnership with the University of Chicago Smart Decarceration Project and the Joyce Foundation. Prosecutors from several major jurisdictions, including Litmus’ partners in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, attended the symposium held at the USDOJ Office of Justice Programs, along with researchers and representatives from community-based organizations, philanthropic funders, and USDOJ. Discussions addressed appropriate eligibility for diversion, design of diversion programs, and outcomes from several implementations in this nascent approach to reducing violence and the social cost of gun crimes.
