Director of Health, Environment, and Policy, Kevin Cromar, spoke at a conference focused on social-science research on solar geoengineering, hosted by Resources for the Future. He critiqued an analysis comparing changes in mortality due to simulated decreases in temperature from solar geoengineering—specifically, stratospheric injection of aerosol particles—with those from a reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions. The latter health benefits far outweigh the former, without the vast downside potential of any planned injection of aerosols into the atmosphere.
